The recipe for my success
And secret to my happiness
Lies not in solemn certainty
But in life’s possibilities
I know of beauty, know of pain
I know of tribulation’s bane
I know religion, but no God
Philosophy, I know by nod
And yet, my destiny still counts
Drunk sweet or bitter, every ounce
And though my journey bring me grief
Or sometimes challenge my beliefs
Or cause me shame or lay me low
Or blind me with misfortune’s blow
Or carry me to heaven’s heights
I’ll glory in my fall or flight
Because I’ll know that I have lived
When facing the alternative
For when the years at last unfold
It’s overcoming that makes gold
The alchemy of my success
And secret to my happiness
My potion pure in potency
And rich elixir’s remedy
Is knowing as I face my fate
My trials are what make me great
