I am a champion, yes I am
Adversity I understand
I know of beauty, know of pain
For one and each has been my gain
I’ve suffered even though I’m strong
My wisdom came from being wrong
I started first, I finished last
I’ve often stumbled in the past
You look at me and think you see
The sum of my ability
But I have hidden depths inside
My better half is what I hide
I have a rhythm all my own
I’m light as air when I’m alone
I took your measure at the start
And you know nothing of my heart
Because you hurt you may think
That you can make my shadow shrink
But hurting makes my shadow grow
I am a champion, I should know
