Make Believe

Strung out and mourning’s just begun

I’m staring at a setting sun

I have to stop and rest a bit

But losing makes it hard to quit

A blooming rose runs out of time

A blemished petal has no rhyme

Love’s not denying that you’re free

Can’t shake the call of make believe

Can’t seem to settle down and go

Desire closets lies I know

I’ll shake this passion in a trice

Deny this garden of delights

I know some roses always blow

The thorn pricks laughter’s afterglow

I’ll plant the seed and let it bleed

I’ll always live for make believe

A smile grows brighter when it’s known

But I do better on my own

A rose can’t bloom forever, friend

I’ll leave before the gory end

Life in the main is still the same

But who alleviates the pain?

There’ll always be a thorn you see

That’s why I live in make believe

Do you feel pity for my shame?

A rose can hide a lover’s blame

Would you forgive the one you spurned?

Pursue a passion unreturned?

You say that love is for the wise

But roses always mesmerize

I never knew how I could grieve

Can’t stop from crying make believe
